Each year approximately 13 million toys end up in landfills. Artist Joyce Dallal’s piece Receptacle is a sculptural alternative to throwing old and broken toys in the trash. Essentially a 10 foot tall wire trash can in the shape of a baby, it will be “fed” over the course of the exhibition with toys that are deemed too thrashed to be reused and unable to be recycled. Used and broken toys will be collected in the gallery throughout the exhibition.  Usable toys will be donated to Alexandria House, a transitional residence for women and children in need.

Help us feed the baby by donating your used and broken toys! Contact us if you would like to set up a collection spot at your school or workplace.

Used and broken toys will be collected from now until June 3, 2011 at the exhibition. All toys will be accepted no matter what condition they are in.

Toys may be dropped off at the following locations:

Marlborough School: In the large plastic bin outside the cafeteria until May 26 and in the gallery during the exhibition, May 5-June 3, M-F 9-6pm, Sat 9-3:30.
Linwood E. Howe School, Culver City: In the big box in the office through the end of May
El Marino Language School, Culver City: Across from the drop zone in the driveway at 11506 Diller Ave.
El Camino College Art Department: Bins located in the basement hallway outside Art 5, the 2nd floor hallway near the elevator, and in Art 103, Art 106, Art 125
